Tennis is a true lifetime sport and youth tennis for ages 10 and under gets you started. Children ages 12-18 can participate in junior team tennis, high school tennis, and tournaments. In college, there’s varsity tennis and tennis intramurals. For adults over 18, there is USTA Leagues, tournaments, and senior international competition.

Playing on a regular basis is great exercise and can help develop hand-eye coordination. Improved speed, balance, strength, and flexibility are other benefits as well. For those that take up competitive tennis, college tennis scholarships are another possibility. But perhaps the biggest benefit is that tennis is fun and social making it the perfect sport for families and friends. Its a great way to forge relationships that will last a lifetime.

POE ELEMENTARY
YOUTH-TENNIS

The Youth-Tennis program is based on the USTA kids 10 and under program and meets their requirements. Rackets, nets, and courts are scaled down to smaller sizes along with the use of low compression, slower bouncing balls which are much easier to hit and allows kids to develop optimal swing patterns. This specialized program makes it easy and fun for kids to hit, play, and score from the start while developing basic tennis skills.

Group lessons offer fun introductory tennis instruction. Students will learn about the game of tennis along with fundamental skills and techniques including stroke production, foot work, and court coverage. We will emphasize the classical techniques which will provide a solid foundation for those students who wish to progress to more advanced levels and competitive play.

Students should dress is athletic clothing and tennis shoes. We will provide rackets, balls, nets, and fun! Classes will be held Wednesdays 3:15-4:30pm and 4:45-6:00pm at the Poe Elementary outdoor covered pavilion. To sign up, goto to the Registeration  section on the website.
